Events & Tours

Throughout NOLA Pyrate Week we promote many locations & events to highlight New Orleans and Louisiana art, music, food & culture. We encourage ye to join us on these adventures!

Pyrate Pub Crawl (Sat. Mar. 24, 8:30-10pm)- starting at Pirates Alley Café for a wander through some of the French Quarter’s historical spots  while we discuss the history of the Pyrates who may – or may not – have visited them.  While this is a casual/free gathering, ye may need some doubloons for beverages along the way and it’s good form to tip yer host (especially when he controls the powder).

Our mates Joy & Matt are part o’ legendary Honky-Tonk band The Wasted Lives – and have invited us to come join the countrified craziness o’ The All-Star Covered-Dish Country Jamboree at The Allways Lounge on Tuesday night (Mar. 27, 9pm). As they describe it: “…a Country Music Variety Show…every week we bring you three musical acts, with emphasis on Honky-Tonk, Classic Country, Western Swing, Classic Americana, and Appalachian music. The show also features an Ol’ timey Auction between sets and a Joke Contest with fabulous prizes.”

Goodchildren Social Aid & Pleasure Club annual Doll Making Party! (Wed. Mar. 28, 7pm at Balcony Music Club) While this doesn’t sound like somewhere ye’d find Pyrates, it’s in aid o’ one o’ our best mates and favourite community organizations! Katy 9 Tails (aka Kathy Connolly, card carrying Pyrate) and her Krewe have been entertaining kids and seniors in the Marigny/Bywater area for some years now and are famous for their huge Easter Day Parade down St. Claude Ave. (the street formerly known as “Goodchildren”). These re-imaged and hand decorated dolls are their trademark throw – and as collectible as any shoe or coconut! Bring yer creativity, sense o’ whimsy and join us for some adult beverages, live music and a grand time with good folk! Goodchildren SAPC Website

Every year we go visit the Bayous of South Louisiana…historical home to the Houma Nation,  Les Acadiens, The Cajuns and Jean Laffite and his crew!

We are honoured to have our good mate, Captain Wendy Wilson Billiot as our guide! Join us as we journey across a natural lake into the serenity and splendour of a thriving freshwater marsh and one o’ the last living cypress swamps in South Louisiana! Your trip through the heart of the most rapidly disappearing wetland in the nation will include seeing areas that are actively washing away, as well as some of the causes of such vivid wetland loss.  You will see many varieties of wildlife in their natural habitats including waterfowl, wading birds, alligators, fish, and the infamous nutria. (MAP) TBA

This year we are giving back a little extra to the Bayou communities by joining our mates from the Barataria Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP.org) for the Bayou Lafourche Cleanup! Sat. Mar. 31 from 1:00-4:00pm joining the team at the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center (314 St Mary St, Thibodaux, LA 70301). We’ll likely arrive a bit early to visit the Cultural Center! This will also be the first official appearance o’ the Louisiana Pyrate Wench Pageant winner.
