Restore, Rebuild, Rise Up!

On August 28, 2010, New Orleans hosts the 5th annual Rising Tide Conference – “The Rising Tide Conference is an annual gathering for all who wish to learn more and do more to assist Rising Tide 5 Poster by Greg PetersNew Orleans’ recovery. Leveraging the power of bloggers and new media, the conference is a launch pad for organization and action. Our day-long program of speakers and presentations is tailored to inform, entertain, enrage and inspire.”

This is an important gathering of community – folk who love the city of New Orleans, it’s culture, it’s history and it’s place in the future. It grew from the seeds of hope planted by a few local bloggers in the receding waters of the Federal Flood of Hurricane Katrina. It has grown in five years to become an important forum for “real life” activism in shaping the recovery of New Orleans by the very citizens who love it – a chance for your voice to be counted!

Participants are encouraged to Blog, Twitter, Facebook and otherwise connect & share with others in attendance and around the world. The goals of Rising Tide are numerous, but are briefly:

  • We seek to protect and preserve the cultural qualities of New Orleans that make our city unique.

  • We resolve to root out and expose the corruption and incompetence that harms us all.

  • We work to enact a vision of a restored and resilient community that respects traditions and reaches for a sustainable future for all citizens.

Visit the website, follow the Blog and spread the word!

REGISTRATION – Conference Registration is only $20.00 until August 1st!

Volunteer

Rising Tide 5 is proud to assist the efforts of Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. We are conducting a food drive in conjunction with the conference, and we also have a volunteer opportunity on Friday, August 27, the day before the conference.

We will be packing food boxes from 9:00 a.m. until noon, on Friday, August 27, at Second Harvest’s Elmwood warehouse. Rising Tide 5 committee member Alli de Jong is coordinating the food drive and the volunteer meet-up in Elmwood. She can be reached at service *at* risingtidenola.com
