Year O’ The Gator

Water calms the Dragon’s fire. Water Dragons are able to see things from other points of view. They don’t have the need to always be right. Their decisions, if well-researched, are usually better since they allow others to become involved.

Kung Hei Fat Choi / Gong Xi Fa Cai – it’s officially Chinese New Year! On the Chinese calendar this is “The Year Of The Black Water Dragon” – and in Louisiana that can be only one thing; our ol’ mates the GATORS!

Alligators (and their cousins the Crocodilians) are o’ the original water dragons – revered for their wisdom, dominance and perseverance. They have been here since long before humans as an integral part o’ the ecosystem.

NOLA Pyrate Week is honouring our Louisiana “Dragons” by officially declaring 2012 as “Year O’ The Gator” – raising funds and awareness for wetlands preservation & restoration – something we termed our “WGL Initiative” (Wetlands, Gators, Louisiana) – important because without the wetlands and all who thrive and survive in them, nothing else would exist!

We are also planning our annual trip to Da Bayou in conjunction with a wetlands cleanup event – we hope ye will join us!
